A larger biogas settler is planned at a (semi-) centralised faecal sludge treatment plant (FSTP) as the first step in treating the faecal sludge before it undergoes further treatment using an anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR), anaerobic filter (AF), and planted gravel filter.

To start, a faecal sludge characterisation study was conducted, which included a BMP test. The results of this study are summarised in the table below.
