9.8 What are design and implementation considerations?

The set-ups for burning biosolids vary greatly from sophisticated to basic. Consequently, performance and safety differ greatly as well. Emergency settings often face limited resources, require rapid deployment and operational ease, and need to consider space limitations. While trying to provide adequate solutions for these types of contexts, it should be remembered that burning as part of a non-advanced or industrialised setup will cause emissions. However, a good design and adequate operation and maintenance can keep these emissions at a minimum.

Generally, for incineration, pyrolysis and gasification units could be implemented at least 30 m from the nearest habitable building.
